Proposal:

Specie and Location of Tree

Tree ID 6684       A Plum tree approximately 8m in height, situated in the rear garden in the far left-hand corner.  The main stem of this tree is positioned in direct, intimate contact with the rear boundary wall, separating the property from College Road.  Expansion growth (radial stem increase) has exerted significant and continuous pressure on the wall structure.

As a direct result of this pressure, the wall is visibly displaced and is currently leaning at a significant angle towards the College Road pavement. This displacement represents an imminent structural failure risk to the wall.

Justification for Work

Due to the continuous and irreversible nature of tree stem growth, the pressure on the wall will persist and increase, making the eventual and imminent collapse of the structure highly probable. Pruning measures would be ineffective as the structural damage is being caused by the main stem at ground level.

Description of Approved Works

Tree ID 6684       Complete removal of the tree is the only viable option to mitigate the safety hazard and prevent the full collapse of the boundary wall onto the public pavement and allow the wall to be repaired.

Details of Replacement Required

None.  A replacement is not required as the garden is well stocked with trees.  There is a more ornamental Prunus serrula adjacent to the above tree which must be left to develop and provide a suitable feature on the same side.
