Species and Location of Trees

Tree ID 8494     A line of Leyland Cypress trees approximately 5.5m in height, situated on the side boundary with Delawyk Crescent.  The line of conifers forming the screening boundary has become too wide for the garden, making effective management increasingly difficult without compromising the green outer growth and overall appearance.

Description of Approved Works

Tree ID 8494     Remove and carefully replace.

Details of Replacement Required

As a condition of the removal of Tree ID:8494, replacement trees to form an evergreen screen are to be planted in the same area also extending along the far south-eastern boundary in the rear garden. As there are mature trees along both these boundaries great care must be taken with stump removal and replanting to ensure no existing roots are damaged.

The following three evergreen species are suggested for consideration, all of which have a good tolerance of competition from nearby trees. They can be planted either as free-standing specimens or, preferably, trained on supporting frames (pleached) to provide effective screening in a more formal, two-dimensional form:

Prunus lusitanica             (Portuguese Laurel)

Ilex aquifolium                   (Holly)

Quercus ilex                       (Holm Oak)

The replacement trees should be planted during the October 2026 to March 2027 planting season, with a minimum overall height of 3 m.  The new trees should be securely supported with a suitable stake and tie to prevent wind-rock while the root system becomes established.

Regular watering will be required during the first two growing seasons, particularly from April to September. Ideally, a 75-litre tree watering bag for each tree should be used to ensure adequate and consistent watering.  If the replacement tree dies or becomes seriously diseased within five years of planting, it must be replaced with a new tree of the same specification.
