Winter Planting Across the Estate

03 December 2025

To help maintain a healthy and diverse urban canopy, 110 new trees have been planted in the grounds of communal gardens on the Estate.

It is part of the Estate’s 1-to-1 replacement policy, where following a cycle of proactive tree management, any dead or decaying trees will be replaced by a new one. The policy ensures that every tree removed is replaced with a carefully selected species suited to the local environment. This is best practice for sustainable and responsible land management. The new stock of trees come from a palette of 23 chosen at Barcham’s, Ely, for their size and climate resilience.

It includes ginkgo biloba, Chinese redbud, sweet gumtree and the upright hornbeam. The selections reflect the goal of protecting the Estate’s green spaces with trees that offer beauty, resilience, and ecological value. We look forward to seeing them grow and thrive in the years ahead. Thank you to residents for sharing their views with the Estate during the engagement period and for their patience and understanding while this work is carried out, in the interests of maintaining the biodiversity of the wider area. A detailed tree policy will be published on our website soon which will provide further information on how we maintain the local environment.
