London Road, 105

Proposal:

Species and Location of Trees

T1.                       A Hybrid Lime tree approximately 25m in height, situated in the front garden.  The crown is overgrown with ivy and a lower limb obstructs the adjacent residential estate access road.

G1 & G2.            Two groups of Lawson Cypress, Cherry Laurel and self-sown Ash on the boundary with Eliot Bank.

Description of Approved Works

T1.                       Ivy should be severed near the base without the need for invasive and damaging works to strip it manually.  Ivy stem severance must not cut into the bark.  Larger ivy branches can be pruned back, but main stems attached to the tree must be retained so that foliage can naturally die back.  One lower lateral stem should be reduced in length to provide a 2m clearance from the roof.  Another lateral should be pruned back to a suitable vertical growth point as shown in red.

G1 & G2.            Removal is acceptable should replacement screening be provided as part of proposed relandscaping.

Details of Replacement Required

As a condition of the removal of G1 & G2 above, replacement screening must be planted and below are alternative species for consideration:

Hawthorn                        (Crateagus monogyna)

Blackthorn                       (Prunus spinose)

Spindle                             (Euonymus europaea)

Yew                                   (Taxus baccata)

Hazel                                 (Corylus avellana)

Holly                                 (Ilex aquifolium)
